Privacy, in plain English
Last updated: October 7, 2026
We never sell your information. Not to anyone, not ever.
The short version
- We collect only what Terri needs to work — it’s listed on this page, in full.
- We never sell your information or share it with advertisers.
- Your words and photos belong to you.
- Want everything deleted? Your account page has a “Delete my account” button that erases your account and everything in it, immediately. (Copies in our security backups age out within 30 days, and payment records stay with our card processor as the law requires.) Prefer a person? Email support@uselamplight.com and we’ll do it for you.
- If you ever paste a card or Social Security number into anything here, we scrub it before saving — those numbers are never stored, even by accident.
The Lamplight privacy policy comes first; it applies to every Lamplight product and to your account. What applies only to Terri— exactly what it collects and what its AI does — is at the end.
The Lamplight privacy policy
This applies to every Lamplight product, Terri included. The same text is published at uselamplight.com/privacy.
The emails you’ll get
- Essential email — sign-in codes, receipts, and gift deliveries. These keep your account working, so they can’t be turned off while you have an account.
- Everything else — weekly questions, weekly recaps, digests you opted into, and the very occasional check-in from a person (which may mention a plan that fits your usage, or ask if you’d share your thoughts). Every one of these carries a one-click “stop these emails” link, honored instantly.
What we collect, and why
- Your email address, and your first name where a product asks for it — that’s how you sign in and how we greet you.
- What you put into a product so it can do its job. The section for each product, at the end of its privacy page, lists exactly what that is.
- Basic usage counts (how many times you’ve used a feature today), tied to your account or an anonymized code — never your raw address.
- If you subscribe, our payment partner Stripe handles your card. We never see or store your card number.
- If you arrived from an ad, we note which ad brought you (so we know what’s working). That note stays with us; there are no advertising trackers on our pages.
- If a feature breaks while you’re trying to use it, we keep a record of that outage and of the credit applied to your next bill because of it. That’s how we make sure you receive it.
- If you tap the microphone button to speak instead of type, your phone’s or browser’s own speech service (Apple’s or Google’s) turns your voice into words. We receive only the words, never the recording.
- What you paste or tell us can include other people’s details — the sender of a letter, a family member’s first name. Please share only what you have a right to share. We treat it with the same care as your own.
The AI part, honestly
Our products use AI from Anthropic to do their work; the section for each product says what the AI does there. What you write is sent to Anthropic to be processed and is not used to train their models. We don’t use your words to train anything either. If you ever paste a card or Social Security number into anything here, we scrub it before saving — those numbers are never stored, even by accident.
Talking with an AI
- The AI in our products is software, not a person. It has no feelings and no body. It isn’t a doctor, nurse, therapist, or friend, however warm it sounds.
- In the products that talk with you, we say so plainly: at the start of every conversation, and in a label that stays at the top of the screen the whole time you’re talking.
- If you ever say something that suggests you might hurt yourself, the AI stops what it’s doing and shows you real human help: the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Call or text 988 — free, confidential, any hour. For an emergency, it shows 911. The AI will never pretend to be a substitute for that help.
- When that help card is shown, we keep a record that it happened — the date, the product, and the kind of concern, never the words you wrote. We use it to make the safety check better and to report how often it happens where the law asks. It’s deleted with your account.
- Your chats are stored under your account and used only to run the product. Anthropic doesn’t use them to train its models, and neither do we. Delete your account and they go with it.
Health details you choose to share
If you mention a medication, a diagnosis, a fall, or how you’re feeling — to Terri, in a follow-up question, or anywhere else — some state laws (Washington’s, for one) call that consumer health data, and they give it extra protection. Here is how we treat it.
- We collect it only because you chose to share it, and only to do what you asked: plan your day, answer your question, or show you help if you’re in distress.
- It goes to one place outside Lamplight: our AI provider, Anthropic, to process your request. It is never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never used to train anything.
- It is stored with your chats, under your account, and it leaves when you delete the chat or the account.
- You can see it, correct it, or delete it the same way as everything else on this page. Washington residents have the same rights, on the same timeline, as everyone else — and we never ask for health details we don’t need.
Who can see what
Your information is visible to you, and to the small team that runs Lamplight when needed to help you or keep the services safe. Where a product lets you share with family, your content is shared only when you turn sharing on. Courts can compel any company to hand over records; short of that, nobody else. We use trusted services to run our products — Supabase (storage), Stripe (payments), Resend (email), Anthropic (AI), and Vercel (hosting) — each bound by their own strict agreements. A product that needs one more service (Terri’s weather, for example) names it in its own section.
Your rights over your information
- See it. Email us and we’ll send you a copy of the information we hold about you, in a form you can read, within 45 days.
- Correct it. Your name, your email, and most of what a product knows about you can be changed on your account page. Anything else, email us.
- Delete it. The “Delete my account” button on your account page erases your account and everything in it, immediately. Or email us and a person will do it for you.
- Stop the emails. Every email that isn’t essential has a one-click stop link.
- Ask again. If you think we got a request wrong, reply and say so. A person will take another look and tell you what they found.
- We never sell your information, and we never share it for targeted advertising — so there is nothing to opt out of there. We treat every request the same no matter which state you live in.
If something goes wrong
If a security problem ever exposes your information, we’ll tell you promptly and in plain words — what happened, what it means for you, and what we’re doing about it — and we’ll notify the authorities the law requires.
Practical details
- We use a small number of cookies to keep you signed in and remember where you came from. No advertising trackers.
- Data is stored in the United States, encrypted in transit and at rest.
- We keep your data while your account exists. Delete your account and it goes with it. Copies in our security backups age out within 30 days, and payment records stay with our card processor as the law requires.
- Our products are for adults, 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
- If this policy ever changes in a way that matters, we’ll email you in plain words first.
Questions about any of this? Email support@uselamplight.com — a real person will read it and reply.
What applies only to Terri
Exactly what Terri collects and what its AI does, on top of the Lamplight policy above.
What Terri collects
- Your email address and first name.
- What you tell Terri — your chats, activity answers, interests, and the first names of people you like staying in touch with.
- Your conversations with Terri — your chats, grouped by day, which you can revisit or delete with your account.
- The optional note you write about yourself in “Teach Terri about you,” so her suggestions fit your life. You can change or erase it there any time.
- The town or ZIP code you give us for the weather. We turn it into map coordinates and send only those coordinates to Open-Meteo, a weather service, to fetch your forecast — never your name or email.
- Your favorites, and the shortcuts you choose for your Today page.
- Which activities you complete, so tomorrow's plan can be better than today's.
What the AI does in Terri
Terri uses AI from Anthropic to plan your day and talk with you. Terri is software, not a person. She says so at the start of every conversation, and a label at the top of the screen says so the whole time you’re talking.
